3M is one of the top manufacturers of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), alongside Ansell, Honeywell, and others. It is a multinational corporation headquartered in the United States. The company has released a statement and guidelines addressing counterfeiting and price gouging of 3M PPE. The statement includes hotlines to contact if you have information about PPE fraud

US: Call 1 (800) 426 8688 or visit www.go.3m.com/covidfraud

Canada: Visit www.go.3M.com/covidfraud-en-ca  (in English) or www.go.3M.com/covidfraud-fr-ca (in French)

3M also has phone numbers to call if you are looking for authorized 3M dealers in your nation. For US residents, the phone number is 1 (888) 364-3577. There is also a website for the US at www.3m.com/3M/en_US/company-us/help-center. As for Canada, there is no website but a phone number is provided: 1 (800) 364-3577.

Finally, 3M has provided what to watch out for when purchasing 3M-brand PPE

  1. Inflated prices. 3M has managed to keep product prices stable throughout this crisis, and the prices are comparable in the US and Canada. The chart below shows per-respirator prices in USD.

If you are asked for prices higher than this or asked for money in advance before receiving products, be skeptical. Lower prices may be possible based on the seller.

2. Products sold individually or without 3M packaging.

3. Missing straps, strange smells, misspelled words on masks or packaging.

You should also be aware that PPE requirements differ by country. PPE imported from other countries may be of different quality than PPE from your own country, even if both are manufactured by the same company.
